NAMPORT SAFETY, HEALTH, ENVIRONMENT AND QUALITY POLICY

1. Policy Statement

The Namibian Ports Authority is committed to providing port and port related services to all local, regional and international sea-borne trade at the ports of Walvis Bay and Luderitz. Accordingly, NAMPORT believes that a healthy, safe, environmentally sustainable and customer oriented work environment is essential for the wellbeing of our employees, contractors, customers and visitors.

Namport is committed to protect the quality of air, water, soil and human health for the continual benefit of persons and ecosystems and to issue personal protective equipment as a last resort where risks cannot be reduced.

In order to successfully create and sustain a focus on our stakeholders, NAMPORT will:

  • Comply with all applicable SHEQ legal and other requirements that apply to our services. These include international and local prerequisites and best practices.
  • Aim to conduct our business in a way that presents no risk of injury and ill health to our employees and port users.
  • Conducts SHEQ assessments as per the required standards.
  • Render quality services to our customers and implement the required environmental care ensuring a safe and healthy workplace.
  • Establish measurable objectives and targets for improving SHEQ performance annually.
  • Through leadership, training and coaching inspire our employees at all levels to enhance customer service requirements and to conduct their day to day tasks with due regard to health, safety, and environment.
  • Maintain open relations with stakeholders and communicate the requirements of this policy to employees, port users, relevant authorities and public making it available on request.
  • Provide adequate human, financial and other resources to fully implement this policy at all times.
  • Continuously strive to improve the SHEQ management system by participating in initiatives endorsed by the Namibian Government and which is relevant to our business.
  • Review this policy (every two years) to ensure its continuous appropriateness.

2. Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to provide guidance to management, employees and other stakeholders involved in the process of managing SHEQ.

3.Scope

This policy will apply to all Namport employees, contractors, port users and visitors to the ports of Walvis Bay and Lüderitz including wholly owned subsidiaries of the ports authority.

4. Delegated Responsibilities

4.1 Board of Directors: The Board of Directors of the Namibian Ports Authority will approve the SHEQ policy and where necessary, revisions to the SHEQ policy.

4.2 Executive Management Committee: The responsibility for developing procedures with regards to SHEQ is delegated to the Executive Management Committee who will ensure compliance and implementation of the policy and procedures.

4.3 Management & Supervisor’s: Are responsible to comply and implement the SHEQ policy and procedures.

4.4 Staff, Port Users & Contractors: Shall comply with the SHEQ policy and procedures.
